Spiral Dance

Here's a fallish-looking leaf spiral monoprint. The plate just gets richer the longer I ink and print. 8-] I love monoprints with stencils (and leaves).

A Good Day in the Print Lab

One of many monoprints I pulled today, playing with leaves and spiral stencils. This particular print is a ghost, generally paler than the first pass.

Two-tone Basil

5"x6" woodcut
I recarved my basilisk block this week to open it up a bit more. I printed it in a number of colors and chine colle, and this is a two-tone viscosity version. I think my cranky chicken is looking particularly cranky. ;- j

Spirals and Leaves

Spirals and leaves. Monotypes with stencils. I went a little crazy last week -- I think I cranked out about 40 of these little things. They're like potato chips -- you can't do just one. I finally had to quit when I ran out of paper -- twice. ;-> I could do these all day. They push my o/c button.

I think the 3rd one down is actually the first print. From there all permutations progressed (in no particular order). My inks were mixed with white, so I wasn't getting any transparent overlays. That's for next time. I like the light colors I was getting (tho in the case of the 1st one, you can barely see the lavendar spiral).

I may use the bulk of them for a print exchange, as they surely constitute an edition, if a varied one. 8-]

More viscosity monoprints. Yellow first, then red -- wipe background -- finally blue. First one is very dynamic (also early in the day). ;-j

Blue straight, red with burnt plate oil, yellow with miracle gel. Yellow repels other two, so I do the moon first, then blue, then red. On second print red was already adulterated with other colors, so it leans toward maroon. Still looks interesting. These are ATC size, currently on 5"x5.5" paper.

Not Even a Mouse

This is a woodcut, roughly 4"x6", from a blind contour of Freya on the couch.

I mixed up a light brown w/ miracle gel and tapped it onto the block. I then rolled the block in a thalo blue (w/ a tad of white). Then I tapped on some black.

This is one busy little block this Christmas. First of all it's my class exchange print (fortune cookie: appearances can be deceiving). Then it's going to by our Christmas card, at least for a dozen or so. And then I've signed up for a Solstice exchange, and that can run as much as 35! And of course it's my card for the Year of the Dog. No wonder Freya's sleeping -- she's exhausted. ;-j

Off the Wall

Paleo-Phoenix, Paleo-Mythos Series
This is a viscosity woodcut print, using the 3 primary colors rolled on in different viscosities. Some color was wiped off, other colors mingled. This technique is always a happy accident.
