Now that's kewl. ;-] I'm figuring out which tools do what: stir to the left, stir to the right, gather, repel. That sort of thing. Sounds like spell-casting. ;- j

This image was the dolphin room in Knossos palace. It's the colors that make the finished product. It doesn't seem to require the same proportions, tho, as evident in the amount of blue.

My first computer graphical image. 8-] I started with an image of a quilt block and ended up with a fluid distortion crafted into a tree and the moon. w00t!

This was fun. And so mesmerizing. I played with this for hours in Photo Shop, fiddling around and finding a filter I liked. I can get into this!

I tried to pick up a book on digital art at B&N, but there was just too much I couldn't make heads nor tails of. So I just came home and started poking around with the program. Once I understand a bit more, I may be able to get a book and see what I'm doing.

Hmmm. I'm pretty sure this is the bear paw block I started with. I must have really stirred those colors to get them to blend like that. Or perhaps I somehow zeroed in on one section? I'll have to try it again and see if I get something similar.

Two-tone Basil

I recarved my basilisk block this week to open it up a bit more. I printed it in a number of colors and chine colle, and this is a two-tone viscosity version. I think my cranky chicken is looking particularly cranky. ;- j

Color over the Top

Hippocampus, jeweltone. Or an attempt at it. Hard to tell how much color you're laying down with watercolor pencils. Definitely an attempt at going over the top.

The block has closed up with use and/or swelling. It was the first block I carved with the 1mm Japanese v-cut, so I was rather tentative. I've needed to go back in and recarve most of it. This is 2.5 hours work. I intend to really lighten it up.

This is a faux-print -- a grey-scale scan of the block to see how it'll look printed. I didn't bother to flip the image. Here's the image reversed.

More Boar

A couple more hours carving and a little farther along. The fine lines are the Japanese cut-down 1mm v-cut. Very nice. The thicker lines are my smallest Flexcut u-cut micro-tool. Need to get more of those Japanese tools. 8-]

He's not finished yet, but I thought I'd post a work-in-progress. I had already done the head and wings and general outline, before I broke my wrist, so details and sky are new. I want to work on him today a bit. I'm anxious to finish those clouds. And then work up a ground scene.

Matte Medium instead of Fixative for Pastel

Showed Jim my pastel monotypes. He suggested cutting matte medium 50/50 with water and spraying it on with an airbrush (ha!). It's lighter than fixative and doesn't turn dark. Don't have an airbrush, but I may get to try it out sometime.

These little piggies are just too kewt. This is a second ghost print, so it's very light. I colored it as practice for the Valentine piggies. Kewt in its own right.

My monsters can be so kewt when they're sleeping. ;-> I love how they're entwined. They sleep all over each other (and us). Here they're being slug-a-beds.

I did this monoprint yesterday. I'll see what I can do with pastel tomorrow (alas at home, as school is closed for the holiday). No class again until next Wed.! The grups are grumpy over it.

Valentine Piglets

I did this monoprint on Monday in class. It's the second piece of art I've done since my wrist was broken. If I rest it on a bridge I can do just fine. I colored it with pastel pencils and nu-pastels. I'm really enjoying these pastels, tho I don't care for fixative. I don't like how it darkens a picture. I'm not sure what else I can do to keep the pastel from flaking off (or attaching to glass in a frame), but I'll see what I can turn up.

I gave this to Bill for Valentine's day. ;-]

Finally! My first print since breaking my wrist. This is a monoprint, w/o my brace but with a bridge. Worked really well. 8-]

Bill's First Woodcut!

Blackburn Bridge, 4"x6". This is so waaay kewl. 8-] Start to finish in one day! Show-off! He even took the photo on our trip back to Blackburn in '03.

Scanned it in, turned it to b&w (using threshold), chalked the back, traced onto block, carved and printed. He finished up at midnight last night. An edition of 20.

I didn't touch a thing, just gave instructions and demonstrated. What a protege. 8- D

Spirals and Leaves

Spirals and leaves. Monotypes with stencils. I went a little crazy last week -- I think I cranked out about 40 of these little things. They're like potato chips -- you can't do just one. I finally had to quit when I ran out of paper -- twice. ;-> I could do these all day. They push my o/c button.

I think the 3rd one down is actually the first print. From there all permutations progressed (in no particular order). My inks were mixed with white, so I wasn't getting any transparent overlays. That's for next time. I like the light colors I was getting (tho in the case of the 1st one, you can barely see the lavendar spiral).

I may use the bulk of them for a print exchange, as they surely constitute an edition, if a varied one. 8-]
