Medieval Wyvern
Medieval Wyvern
Here's a print of my demo block. The school demo went very well and I think I printed a good 50 prints. I used the back of a wooden spoon, which covered more evenly, tho a smooth rock did burnish more easily. I have since made prints with a student baren, which covers the best, tho takes more pressure than the rock or the spoon.

I really like that!! Nice print!!
Lots of character. I love the grain.
No, this is a woodcut. I used Baltic birch plywood and Flexcut micro tools. The block is 5"sq.
Thanx all. 8-]
Ellen, it looks like a whole lot of work went into your print. Kudos.
could you give a little description of how you taught the kids? My mom is a teacher and takes her classes to a rennisance faire every year. I think they would Love to do something like this...
or if you are ever in Pennsylvania- ??? a workshop? perhaps?
I live in Japan but mom is in PA.
I had to look up "wyvern." As I suspected, a dragon. Would have loved to have seen the demo, and you all done up in your medieval outfit! Did anyone take pictures?
That's really cool, what a great dragon! And such an interesting technique too.
Very nice print.
I really like this -- very fun! I'll bet the kids thought it was the neatest thing at the fair.
Beautiful! Lucky kids.
Very awesome print. Thanks for sharing it!

Ha! I must have printed the wyvern 100 times, conservatively. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the block has warn down and smooshed together. I spent today recarving it and it's back to its lively self again. But that's certainly a first for me!
