We did battle with Vistaprint and were victorious.  Here is the card that is going out.  8-]

Printing

 

Printing now.  After it dries I'll add pastel.

I don't want it to come in too far on the sides, so I've decided to use Bill's trick of adding sky that he used on the first SH xmas card where he invented some more top branches on the tree.

SH Xmas 2020 ~ Magi

 

Goodness.  Last time I posted in here it was pre-covid.

Thinking about the SH xmas card.  I'm thinking about the 3 kings, or magi.  Something stylized, or at least traveling on the road, with the castle in the background and no star.

Lots of examples on both Pinterest and Google.  I'm putting them in scarf for the time being as magi.

Everything from rustic woodcut look (or linocut) to Art Nouveau to medieval.

Castle on hill or horizon, no Star in the sky (tho maybe lots of stars).

This guy ~ ravenpaw ~ is dynamic enough for a paleo-mythos critter.  I can see lines of rock swirls shooting from his feathers and feet and even a claw.

Printing

With a baren.  I miscalculated the thickness of the block and it doesn't fit on the press (who knew?).

So I made a couple test prints and a couple that might do for the card.  I may do some more tomorrow, but this was all I could manage today.

Getting there.  I expect there will be some recarving of the finer lines, but I should be making a test print shortly.

Dark version of the block tho show more contrast.  Coming along.  I can see where a lot of my lines are (as usual) too fine.  I'll see how it prints when I finally ink it up.

Latest Iteration

Playing with the motifs of castle, knight and tree.  I like a smaller castle in the distance, knight in the middle ground, but larger, and tree even larger in front.
